Q: Have you spoken to the defendant’s insurance company or attorney? (you want to avoid this, any information you’ve provided may compromise your settlement)

Q: How long have they been practicing personal injury claims and what is their experience and success rate?
Q: What is their track record in cases like yours?
Q: What is their concentration within personal injury law and is personal injury their primary field of practice?
Q: What are their qualifications and what professional associations do they belong to?
Q: Do they usually represent injured people or defendants?
Q: Is there a charge for the consultation?
Q: Do they handle cases on a contingency fee basis and if so what is their contingency rate?
Q: How much do they charge and when will the fees be paid?
Q: Will they handle your case, assign it to an assistant or refer it to another law firm?
Q: How many clients do they currently have and what attention will be paid to your case?
Q: What are other alternatives to solving my claim? Do they use other methods like mediation and arbitration?
Q: What is their reputation in the legal community, are they respected or feared?
Q: If I have a question regarding my case, will I be able to speak with you directly or do I have to speak to a paralegal?
Q: Will you prepare my case for trial or take the shorter path of a settlement?
Q: Do they have extensive litigation experience and are they aggressive?
Q: What percentage of their cases are actually tried to verdict?
Q: Will they come to you in the hospital if it is inconvenient for you to go to their office?
Q: Who will be paying my medical, therapy, drug, transportation, lost income and pain and suffering expenses?
Q: What should you do to protect your rights to these claims?
Q: What forms and paperwork will you need to obtain?
Q: Will they be able to assist you with my medical claims?
Q: How many insurance companies need to be notified? Will they do this for you?
Q: Do they retain professional liability insurance?
Q: Will I be charged a legal fee if you do not recover money for me?
Q: Is my spouse entitled to any of the settlement or money awarded? What happens if I get divorced?
Finally ask yourself, how well do you trust the lawyer?
